There is so much serenity, harmony and peace in nature
and man does not realize even to make an effort to look for this peace that
surrounds him. The mere observation of such ignorance makes me more
disappointed in mankind, or perhaps disillusion is the proper word.
Maybe that it is the study of astronomy and related fields that has given me an
idea about the true place of man in this universe. But I think this can happen
with the study of any subject, if the subject is studied thoroughly. While the
study of astronomy leads to an idea of the place of man in time and space, the
study of other subjects leads to an idea of the place of man in relation to the
knowledge present in the universe.
Look at the life of man or even mankind in relation to the time and
dimension we live in. The universe may have existed from eternity and may go on
existing for eternity. And how long is the life of man?
Few calculated years.
The observable universe extends for billions of light years in each direction,
where each light year is equal to 6 billion miles. And what are the dimensions
of the earth on which we live? Few calculated miles.
Look at it from another point of view. Everything follows a vibration, a cycle,
a rhythm even from an election to the whole universe. According to the
pulsating universe theory, the universe will collapse and build its self again
and again, for eve. Thus everything is a repetitive cycle coming again and
again except life, our life, which as far as we know comes only once, at least
in this universe and that too for a very short time.
Similarly, there is so much knowledge in the universe from the microcosm to the
macrocosm that man can't even hope to know an infinitely small fraction of it.
Even mankind as a whole can't come near knowing a little part of the total
knowledge, because there will be always still more question to be answered.
The observable space dimensions and the total knowledge in this universe
are so incomprehensible, that we are not even comparable to an atom of
speck of dust in the world.
Thus our life is infinitesimally small. We are just an activity fluttering by
in an eternity of universe, like a dust particle crossing a sunbeam. As far as
the colossal systems of this cosmos are concerned we might as well not exist.
We are of no importance. And instead of consolidating our position in this
universe what do we do? We kill each other and make the greatest efforts to
make this destruction massive and impersonal. That is to say we have
'progressed' from hand to hand combat to the age of missiles.
Our progress is measured is relation to that of other races which in itself is
a limiting factor to progress, by not letting harmony to build up among the
peoples of this world.
We haven't even got a fair system of work and reward i-e money. Hard work does
not lead to money in the same proportion.
If only we understand our position and standing in this universe, controlled
and challenged our thinking properly, we could at least learn from what God
teaches us about peace and harmony through nature.
